Senator Sehar Kamran Calls upon Govt. To Improve Workers’ Lot
Islamabad, May 1, 2004: On the occasion of the international labour day, Senator Sehar Kamran (T.I.) has called upon the government to improve the deplorable condition of the labour class throughout the country. She emphasized that free education and better health facilities should be extended to not only the workers (labours) but also to their families. The government, she said, must pay attention and increase the existing low wages of the labour class. She further said that the labour plays a vital role in the development of a country as they are the backbone of a country so it is important that the government focuses on improving the basic living standards of the labour.
Senator Sehar Kamran (T.I.) added that the government needs to draw inspiration and follow in the footsteps of Quaid-e-Awaam, Zulfiqaar Ali Bhutto, who not only raised awareness about the rights of the labour class but also substantially improved their social status in the society. She said as the labour day historically highlights and focuses on the economic and social struggle of the workers, it is high time they are given their due right and share. She emphasised the importance of the fact that the working labour class and the nation need to get united for the betterment and development of Pakistan.
