7th March, 2016: On the occasion of the International Women Day, President Centre for Pakistan and Gulf Studies (CPGS), Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) said since 1975, United Nations has celebrated women’s day every year on 8th March. She said this day is celebrated all over the world, in recognition of the role and services laid by women in nation building, human rights and social justice. This acknowledgement is important for envisioning potential role and contribution of women in society, prioritizing their role and highlighting their presence in the bodies overseeing mechanisms including key parliamentary decision making especially those advancing peace and security.
Senator Kamran said today, women’s full participation in decision-making and economic life across all sectors is essential to building sustainable livelihoods, a stronger economy and improving the quality of life for all in families, communities and the wider society. She said, let us all recognise the fact that women’s inalienable right to participate fully and equally in all spheres of society is an important step towards building a society which understands and values the inextricable link between the empowerment of women and sustainable national development.
Senator Sehar Kamran said, women have played a significant role in Pakistan. Eversince the time of the country’s creation till today, in every sphere of life, Pakistani women have made valuable contribution. From Fatima Jinnah to Muhtarma Benazir Bhutto, women in Pakistan have proved their mettle, time and time again. The need of the time is that women should be given equal opportunities, gender inequality be removed, and their potential should be utilized for the betterment of Pakistan.
