Islamabad, February 11, 2015: Dr. Gerhard Wahlers, the Deputy Secretary General and Head of the European and International Cooperation of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) called on Senator Sehar Kamran (T.I.), President, the CPGS. The Senator welcomed the guest speaker, followed by introduction of the CPGS team to Dr. Wahlers.
The CPGS and KAS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding by virtue of which the two organizations have collaborated in highly useful academic activities based on efforts to consolidate democratic traditions, enhance awareness and capacity of civil society aimed at mitigating traditional and non-traditional security threats in the region and beyond. Challenges of counter-terrorism and security issues were also discussed in the meeting.
Dr. Gerhard Wahlers acknowledged the significance of the projects and admired the CPGS vision of innovating prospects for peace and security through intellectual discourse and contributing to sustainable social, political and economic development; thereby promoting the rule of law and good governance. He emphasized that with the security and defence issues gaining significance worldwide, they are coming to be of great relevance to Germany.
He also observed that the quest for dignity and lack of economic opportunities for the youth are the major concerns all over the world, especially in the conflict zones.
It was agreed that the CPGS and KAS would strengthen and diversify collaborative activities between Pakistan and the EU in general and Pakistan and Germany in particular.
