With esteemed respects and immense pleasure on behalf of myself and the members of the Centre for Pakistan and Gulf Studies (CPGS), I avail this opportunity to convey my heartiest felicitations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, HRH Prince Saud Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the members of the Royal family, people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and H.E. Mr. Iyad bin Amin Madani on the occasion of his successful election as the first Saudi Secretary General of the OIC and his formal assumption of the gracious office.

H.E. Mr. Iyad Madani carries with him rich experience, having held many important offices and positions; he has served as the Minister for Hajj and Information, and has been decorated with many prestigious awards and numerous honors during his professional career. His nomination for the distinguished position manifests the trust of the Saudi leadership on his knowledge, experience and abilities.

The Organization of Islamic Conference is a vitally important platform for the Muslim World – in fact, it is the 2nd largest inter-governmental organization after the UN. It is the collective voice of the Muslim world, which ensures the safeguard and protection of the interests of the Muslim world, within the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony. It is a matter of extreme pleasure and satisfaction for us that this important Muslim body will be led by a representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as the Secretary General, the highest position at the OIC. It is indeed a prophetically promising appointment for the better future of the Muslim Ummah, Insha Allah. His placement on the post of OIC Secretary General will strengthen the OIC platform and will rejuvenate it, making it more dynamic and effective in accordance with the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and will truly secure and promote the interests of the Muslim Ummah.

May Allah SWT bestow His kind blessings on the Muslim Ummah, protect us and lead us to the path of peace, progress and prosperity (Ameen).
