01138[1]Afghan President Hamid Karzai recently visited Pakistan and in the development of an apparently friendly posture towards Pakistan.

A possible explanation of such a positive change in Karzai’s stance may well be the realization that Pakistan is a key stakeholder and is contributing its utmost for the establishment of peace and security in Afghanistan.

Over the last few months, Pakistan has been accused by the Karzai government over and over of facilitating the Taliban and allowing them to use its territory from which to plan and launch attacks inside Afghanistan.

Now a bilateral consensus has formally been achieved that both sides will not allow non-state actors to use either territory against the other. In addition, a couple of bilateral agreements for economic development, including the Kunar Dam Project, have also been signed. It is hoped that the two brotherly states will henceforth be able to build a strong strategic bilateral partnership in the region.
